boatbutter June 23, 2010 at 8:10 am

I’ve heard that Haynes and Trucks actually submerge their guitars in bacon grease the night before a show to get that fat tone…..it’s true.

Exzeluke June 23, 2010 at 8:10 am

@skydogj I AGREE WITH YOU 100%.

@skydogj
as a musician and music lover I just have to agree with ya my friend. and Socrates dude, this dudes play with they heart, carppy “Rock” bands like My Chemical Romances and shits like that are those who play with money.
all pure Blues and Rock players do it with the heart. listen to Warren Haynes man and the other guitar dude with the slide, if thats bank show me heart

Danjd1 June 23, 2010 at 8:10 am

@skydogj but this is youtube, don’t you know everyone single person on here is a music critic for rolling stone?

and as music critics, they will relentlessly state their opinions as facts, because they’re experts and you aren’t!

skydogj June 23, 2010 at 8:10 am

look here you bunch of fucking idiots…this is what it is…
ABB and Taj jamming it out.
If you think a certain era of music is better or worse, that is your opinion, but it has nothing to do with this video or the power of music. If you think it does, you truly don’t get music.

any more bullshit from any side and comments are off!!!!

petdef June 23, 2010 at 8:10 am

Whoever thinks this version is better than the one on Rock and Roll Circus has got $hI# for brains – I have watched that one dozens of times and could not even get through this one once!

If you’re too ignorant to understand what Jesse Ed Davis contributed to Taj Mahal’s music you have no hope in ever truly appreciating this music. Just because a guitarist is “technically” more skilled, does not make them more creative, unique, or talented. Taj Mahal himself said that Jesse Ed Davis was a huuuugee part of his sound. Learn to show some respect and give credit where it’s due. Thanks.

socrates1818 I have to disagree with you. Rock N Roll Circus is one of the sloppiest performances I’ve ever seen. I’m shocked it was ever released. Dickey Betts hasn’t been relevant since 1972.

Merstheman June 23, 2010 at 8:10 am

I also prefer the 1968 version to this one, but it’s only because that was Taj in his prime. Love the Allmans though, and the Beacon show when Eric Clapton sat in last year was the tits

landraus June 23, 2010 at 8:10 am

@arzachelek if nerve is in his soul, then its soul. douche commment again. warren has distinguished his own sound which might not appeal to closeminded people like you. Still is the current hardest working guitarist

arzachelek June 23, 2010 at 8:10 am

Good point, Socrates. It’s really hard time, I wonder if the music world has anything more to offer than those wannabes. There is huge huge gap between guys like Jesse Ed Davis and these wannabies. Warren’s sound got no vibe, nerve in it it’s no soul, and derek is even worse. LESS IS MORE!

thailandlonny June 23, 2010 at 8:10 am

taj has put a few kilos on! much like MYSELF! oh brings back the hisssssstory!

skydogj June 23, 2010 at 8:10 am

it is too bad that you can’s show the same intelligence as your name

socrates1818 June 23, 2010 at 8:10 am

This in no way compares to The version on rock n roll circus. Jesse Ed had it in his soul, these dudes have it in the bank, no offense meant. Also can’t listen to Allmans after Dickie split.

sboswell12000 June 23, 2010 at 8:10 am

Fantastic. Props to Warren and Derek for resurrecting this band.

MrCaribbean June 23, 2010 at 8:10 am

Pure sweetness and soul coming from these great musicians.
